I think that I am finally used to the Texas climate because I have actually been freezing the past couple of days. Wearing sweatshirts and my winter coat, warming up the car in the mornings (which is so easy now that we have the remote starter) and running the heater on high when we are in the car. I believe that this is the first winter I have done that since we moved here almost 8 (!!) years ago. The high temps the past couple of days have only been in the 40s, not freezing really, but pretty darned cold for Texas. This weekend it is to go into the 60s and then the 70s next week…back to normal Texas winter temps!!
I had the boy home sick yesterday. The phone woke me at about 6:30 and it was Amber asking if I could work in our classroom all day since one of the other coteachers was going to be out. I told her “sure” then got up, made the bed, hopped in the shower, then went to wake Scott H. He was laying there all wrapped up in his blankets so I told him to get up. He lifted his head and told me he’d thrown up 5 times during the night. I asked him why he hadn’t woken me up and he said that it was late and I was sleeping. Well….DUH! I never hear him and the last time he’d gotten sick, Scott and I told him that he needs to wake me up. I’d prefer he wait until he was done so he doesn’t get it all over the floor, but that he needs to wake me up. He told me that the first time he was up was about 1 AM and the last was about 5 AM (it was now almost 7). I asked if he was OK and he said yes and got up to get dressed. I’d told him that I’d agreed to go in to work at 8 so I guess he figured he had to go to school. I went in to finish dressing and when I went back in to check on him, he was laying upside down on top of his clothes on his bed asleep. I told him to get back under the covers and went in to call Amber to let her know that not only could I not sub, I wouldn’t be in for my regular shift either. She said not to worry..it’s going around and to just take care of Scott H.
I figured he’d be better in my bed with me so I unmade the bed, put my sweats on and brought him in to my room. We laid in bed and he kept holding my hand (I knew then that he was really sick!) and we both must have dozed back off because next thing I knew he was poking me to tell me that he thought he had to puke again and the clock said it was 9:45! He didn’t get sick thankfully and I made sure he was sipping some water. He asked if he could watch the TV and I really wasn’t up for cartoons, so I came and got the Harry Potter movies I’d ordered. They’d arrived Wednesday and he didn’t know that they had come. We spent the day in bed watching the first two movies. His teacher had emailed me to check on Scott H and asked if I wanted his work. She said she could drop it off on her way home if I wanted her to. I’ve said it before and I will say it again…the teachers at our school are so wonderful! She knew we lived close by and she said it was no trouble for her to stop and bring it home in case he was out again today (he’s not). She stopped about 4 or so to drop the stuff off and it was beginning to sleet a little. I hadn’t really been outside all day…just grabbed the mail and brought the trashcan and recycling bucket back up around noon. I was so glad to be inside cause it was nasty. I told her Scott H was feeling a little better and was on the sofa now watching cartoons.
He kind of lagged the rest of the night…got most of his work done then laid on the sofa until bedtime. He actually went to bed with no arguing and was out in like 5 minutes. This morning he was fine….up and dressed before I came in to make sure he was up. He ate some breakfast and then sat here reading a book until we left for school. Hopefully he is over it and I won’t get a call from school. He didn’t get sick yesterday after 5 AM although he felt like it a few times, he slept all night too so maybe he’ll be fine.
We had one of the kids at school throw up all over on Wednesday. That was fun….NOT! We had to get the other kids out of the room so it could be cleaned up so we played in the hallway until it was all done. I’d say 7 out of the 9 kids we have are either coughing their heads off or their noses are running like a faucet. It has not been fun this past week or two. Everyone has been either cranky and whiny or running around not listening. Good thing I love my job!! I have been glad though when one of the two ringleaders leaves so that the kids calm down some.
I am still having problems with this notify list group. No one is getting the notification emails but me. I added myself as one of my other emails and I get the notifies, but no one else is. I asked a couple people who use the groups too and they said that my settings are the same as theirs. I have been working with the help forum and none of their suggestions have worked. I deleted everyone and readded them myself and they are still not getting the emails. I am about ready to give up. I am going to search around for another notify that actually works. I’ll let y’all know what I decide. (Update: I am going back to my original notify list at NotifyList.com . I added a Notify List sign up page to this. The tab is at the top of the entry. I am sorry that I am doing this yet again!) ARGH!!
Not much else is going on here between work and school. Scott is still in Seattle. he is due home next Wednesday and then I leave Thursday to head to Houston and our Early Childhood Educators Conference. I am so excited about that. We are going to have a blast! I am rooming with the same person I roomed with for the retreat. She is the lower elementary and 4 year old science teacher and also helps out with the 4 year old preschoolers. We had fun rooming together at the retreat and I know that we’ll have fun at the conference. I am not sure who signed up for any of the classes I signed up for but hopefully I will have at least one person I know in with me somewhere. I am looking forward to doing something on my own. I love my boy and his Daddy, but sometimes I would like to be ME and get to do something away from the house. I loved the retreat for that reason and this year I also got to go to the Christmas Party at Amber’s alone. I haven’t gotten to do anything on my own since we moved here. It really feels good to get a short break.
Guess I should head to the pet store to buy the piggies food and supplies. I ran out of litter and bedding last week and their cages need to be changed desperately! The litter I use under the bedding keeps them from smelling too much, but I was low on it and didn’t use as much as I usually do in their cages so they are starting to stink. Bad Mommy!! Cleaning the cages isn’t hard or really time consuming, but I hate doing it so I always put it off until I have to do it. Ah well!
Have a great one Y’all!!

I had to chuckle over the thought of forty degree weather being “freezing.” That’s a heat wave here!
