Bet you thought I’d disappeared, huh?  I’m here…busy as all get out…but I’m here.  Between working full time, Scott H with his school stuff, sports and whatever else a 10 year old has to do, and general daily life…I don’t get much time to myself these days.

Scott spent 6 weeks in Japan, Guam and Micronesia starting at the beginning of October. It was gorgeous there he said, but the trip was way too long. Of course, it beat his other possibility…which was the work in Nigeria (and where the two guys working there are still staying).  He sent me beautiful pics of the sunsets over the South Pacific and he got to go snorkeling and kayaking..which he had never done before. He had a layover in Honolulu on his way home and said that he wants to go there next year for our 10th anniversary. Like I am going to nix that idea??  He got home the week before Thanksgiving and had off until the first week of December. He has been working locally since then and finished up with things last Friday. he’ll be home now until the first week in January…so I can’t complain really.  He has gotten a promotion…his supervisor is pregnant with twins and due in April. They wanted someone to cover for her while she is out on maternity leave and to take over some of her responsibilities once she comes back and Scott was the unanimous choice for the spot! He will be in charge of dealing with the theater owners and setting up the jobs, overseeing everything involved with the jobs..and then when his boss returns, he will continue to oversee the tech side of all of that and she will handle the front end and screen side of the work. Cool huh?? It means a raise and a little less travel. He will be able to work mostly from home with weekly trips up to the main office in Euless.  I am so proud of him!

Scott H is doing well in school. He had all A’s and one B on his report card! He is playing JV basketball and started taking drum lessons in the school band. He also is involved in the Scholastic competition this year. His events for that are vocabulary and dictionary skills so he has been having practises and work for those too. They had their band recital last week and he did really well.  Here is a link to the video of them playing one of their songs..hopefully it works.

I’ve been busy with working. The kids are so cute but most days I come home exhausted! I love them all but they sure can try your nerves!  I love having three early days this year…getting home at 3 those days is really nice.  Between everything else I have going on, I have been getting ready for Christmas. I have really had no Christmas spirit this year for some reason. I’m not quite sure why. I thought it was because I didn’t have any shopping done or the decorations up, but I took a day off work so that Scott and I could head out and get stuff done. Even when I was done that…I still felt down.

I think a lot of it had to do with the fact that I was diagnosed with Diabetes the week before Thanksgiving. I went in for a routine checkup to get a renewal on my allergy meds. Now the Dr requires bloodwork with all annual physicals. I was being really good with my eating but was expecting high cholesterol and high BP…well I was half right. I have high cholesterol but the BP was fine. Instead my fasting blood sugar was off the charts! He slapped me on meds for the cholesterol and the diabetes and I had to make an appointment with a dietitian..which I had the day before Thanksgiving. She sent me to a training class and now I am working on making the changes I need to make in order to live with the diabetes.  It is nhot easy and some days I just feel like giving up. I was eating really well..following the diet plan, taking my meds…and my counts were still high. After the trainig class though, I learned that I was not testing the right times and that the counts I was getting were really not all that bad. Especially considering what they had been before. I did really well at Thanksgiving..when I explained to the dietitian how I planned on making the meal..she was impressed and my counts after dinner that day were really great.  I am praying that with all the changes I am making in my diet and life that eventually I won’t need the meds any more.

I hope y’all have a great Christmas..I promise to update after tomorrow with lots of pics!  Right now I am just going to relax. The cornbread is made for the dressing (I made it diabetic friendly!) and the chili for tonight’s dinner is simmering away on the stove (again..diabetic friendly!) and the house smells so good. I am going to stop my whining and count my blessings..I know I have so many things to be thankful for.  I may be back later to post a meme…if not Merry Christmas everyone!!!
